Leticia Priebe Rocha
I climb to witness
it on top of the hill,
the last of summer,
Sturgeon Moon.
Named by the Algonquin
for the abundance
of fish, sustenance, it hails,
tonight is no exception.
A profusion of lovers
surround me, illuminated
by the brightness they
congregated to share.
The you-shaped emptiness
compels me to foolishly
snap a photo, yet like always,
its augustness refuses
to be encased by my phone.
Instead, I am given
a far-flung orb emanating
a love alive and unlived.
Leticia Priebe Rocha earned her bachelor’s from Tufts University, where she was awarded the 2020 Academy of American Poets University & College Poetry Prize. Born in São Paulo, Brazil, she immigrated to Miami, FL at the age of 9 and currently resides in the Greater Boston area.
